# Creating your first schedule

This walk-through was replayed inside the application to write this page — every screen described below is the one you'll actually see, not a reconstruction.

## 1. From the home screen, create the schedule

On `/`, the "My schedules" page opens on an empty state the first time: "No schedule yet." and a **Create a schedule** button.

- Click **Create a schedule** (or **New schedule**, at the top of the page, if it already holds some schedules).
- A text field opens in its place, with a **Create** button just below.
- Type a name (for example "Lilac Street site") and click **Create**.

The schedule opens right away in the editor, on the **Timeline** tab.

## 2. A new schedule isn't empty

A schedule you've just created already carries one phase ("Phase 1") and three empty rows underneath — no plan to draw yourself before you can start working. Two prompts guide you:

- in the left-hand panel: "Click a cell to name a first activity." ;
- in the middle of the time grid: "A first block is drawn here: click opposite a row, then drag."

## 3. Name a row

Click the empty cell under "Phase 1", in the **Activity** column: it turns into a text field. Type a name (for example "Foundations") and confirm with **Enter**.

## 4. Draw a first block

On the same row, in the time grid to the right, click where the block should start and **drag** horizontally to the end date, then release. A blue block appears, with a text field ready to receive its name.

Type the block's name (for example "Earthworks") and confirm with **Enter**, then click elsewhere to close the field.

What you just did is exactly what the "Summary" line, just above the grid, already shows: the number of rows, the number of blocks, and the period covered, in working units (weekends don't count toward a duration, unless you turn them on in Settings).

## 5. It saves itself

At the top of the screen, next to the schedule's name, an indicator says **Saved**: every gesture (naming a row, drawing a block) is written right away, with no "Save" button. Go back to "← Schedules": the schedule shows up in the list, with the right row and block counts.

## What this page doesn't cover

- **Adding dependencies between blocks, placing milestones, changing a block's color or icon**: see the guide *The timeline: blocks, links and milestones*.
- **Inviting someone else onto this schedule**: see the guide *Sharing and roles*.
- **Changing the calendar (working days, holidays, closures)**: see the guide *The calendar, closures and absences*.
