# The legend and the filter

The legend states what the schedule's colors and icons mean; the filter hides part of it to keep only what interests you. Two neighboring panels, one under the grid, the other in the right-hand panel.

## The legend fills itself in

You don't have to declare anything: as soon as a block color or an icon type appears anywhere in the schedule, it automatically enters the legend, at the bottom of the screen. Each entry carries its swatch and a name: the one you gave it, otherwise the color's palette name ("Blue", "Brown"…), otherwise **"Custom color"** — never a code. To give a color a meaning ("Earthworks", "Delay"…), click its entry, or the pencil **"Change the legend"** at the end of the line: the settings open on its field. The legend fits on one line; the **"Collapse the legend"** button shrinks it, and that choice is remembered in your browser, without touching anyone else's schedule.

The legend is also configured from **Settings › Presentation and legend**, **Legend** section: show it or hide it, and the same color settings as above. **Add a project detail**, next to it, adds a free label/value pair (client, project manager, version…) shown in the legend — not a color, a piece of project information.

## The filter

The **Search and filter** button (Ctrl+F) opens, in the right-hand panel, the **Filter** tab with:

- **Text** — searches cells, block and icon labels, and comments, with no accent or case sensitivity.
- **Block colors** — one checkbox per legend color.
- **Icons** — one checkbox per icon type present in the schedule.
- **Traffic lights** — None, Red, Orange, Green (traffic-light-type columns).
- **Statuses** — one checkbox per status-column value.
- **Date range** — From / To.
- **Reapply** and **Clear** buttons.

Between checkboxes of the same criterion, it's an **OR** (Earthworks or Electrical); between two different criteria, it's an **AND** (this color *and* this text). Clicking **Reapply** filters the grid and the timeline right away: only rows that match stay visible, a count ("*N* row(s) out of *total*") shows at the bottom of the panel, and the ribbon's **Search** button carries a badge with the number of active criteria. The filter is also written into the page's address (`?f=t:keyword`, `c:color`, `s:status`…) — it copies and shares as is.

**Clear** removes every criterion and shows every row again.

## What happens when you get it wrong

- **A row seems to have disappeared**: it's almost always an active filter — check the badge on **Search**, or click **Clear** in the Filter panel to see everything again.
- **A color renamed by mistake, overwriting the old name**: type the right name back in, or **Ctrl+Z**.

## What this page doesn't cover

- **Status and traffic-light columns themselves** (creating them, setting their values): see *[The grid and columns](/docs/en/guides/grille-et-colonnes/)*.
- **Searching a schedule from an agent**: the same engine exists as an MCP tool (`search_schedule`) — see the agent guide.
- **The critical path**, a separate outline toggled from the ribbon, not detailed here.
